A Zaccagnini table lamp that holds its ground in a room without competing with it — the kind of object that changes the quality of light and the feel of a space without announcing how it does it.
Conical form in glazed beige ceramic — soft inverted cone, 50 cm high, 30 cm at the base. The glaze is applied by hand and you can feel the making beneath it: slight variations in the surface, the warmth of something thrown and finished by a person rather than a machine. No shade included — the form reads as sculpture without one, and takes a shade in almost any size.
Ugo Zaccagnini founded his ceramic house in Florence in 1905, having trained at the Richard-Ginori factory in Sesto Fiorentino — winning the Triennale di Milano in 1940 and trusted by Walt Disney to produce the first ceramic versions of his characters. In the 1980s, as the family’s third generation ran the house, Zaccagnini turned exclusively to the production of lamp bases for high-end manufacturers — the final and most focused chapter of a century of Florentine craft. This lamp is from the last years of that chapter, made in the late 1990s before the factory closed its doors in 2000: signed on the base, sourced directly from the closing stock. One of the last pieces made.
