Onyx cut and polished into a simple column. Green, beige and brown banding runs through the stone in layers laid down long before anyone thought to cut it. Cool to the hand and heavier than its size suggests. No two are alike: the banding falls differently on every piece, which is the nature of the stone rather than a flaw in the cutting.
A banded onyx paperweight from the 1970s, hand-cut and polished from natural calcite onyx. Onyx was the desk stone of that decade, worked into paperweights, ashtrays and lamp bases across European workshops.
