A bar set from 1960s Italy that has always been as much about the object as the drink — the ice bucket and thermos that hold their own on any surface, used or not.
Mirror-polished chrome over a stainless steel body. The ice bucket is cylindrical with a close-fitting lid and a clean rim — 15 cm diameter, 18 cm height, 850 g. The thermos matches it in finish and proportion — 15 cm diameter, 21 cm height, 1 kg — with an inner glass liner in a pale rose tone, visible when open. Both pieces were made to work together, and the visual logic holds across six decades. Attributed to Aldo Tura’s Milan workshop, consistent with the chrome and glass barware produced under his direction in this period.
Aldo Tura established his Milan atelier in the early 1950s and became one of the defining figures of Italian decorative design — known above all for his lacquered goatskin furniture, but also for a range of barware and domestic objects produced in metal, chrome, and glass. His pieces entered major American collections and were included in the landmark 1950 exhibition Italy at Work: Her Renaissance in Design Today at the Brooklyn Museum. Sought after by collectors today, they represent the postwar Italian conviction that functional objects deserve the same formal attention as furniture.
