A heavy crystal vase that holds a single stem or a full arrangement with equal composure, the kind of object that earns its place on a shelf and stays there for years.
The Haga is a substantial form in clear lead crystal: thick-walled, with a gentle outward taper from a narrow neck to a broad shoulder. The weight in the hand is immediately apparent: 4.2 kg of hand-blown Swedish crystal, optically clear throughout. At 24 cm tall and 12 cm in diameter, it works as well as a dining table centrepiece as on a console or sideboard. The hand-engraved signature on the base, Orrefors BJ 4492-281, confirms this as a signed studio piece from the Orrefors glassworks.
A signed Orrefors lead crystal vase by designer Berit Johansson, made in Sweden in the 1970s. The Orrefors glassworks, founded in 1898 in Småland, is one of the founding names in Scandinavian glass design, and its signed pieces are held in museum collections worldwide.
