It waits by the door for the market, the bakery, and the long way home: the kind of errand worth doing slowly.
Knitted cotton mesh that stretches to hold whatever you put in it and settles flat again when empty. Ecru is undyed cotton, the colour the yarn arrives in. The Mini takes a loaf and a newspaper. The Classic body measures 40 × 40 cm, with 28 cm handles for carrying in the hand or 56 cm handles for the shoulder. The XXL opens to 70 × 70 cm and still rolls down small enough to keep in the boot of the car. No lining, no fastening, no plastic anywhere in it. It takes a rolled mat and a bottle to a morning class. It holds toys off the floor as willingly as fruit off a stall.
Filt has been knitting nets in Normandy since 1860: fishing nets first, then cargo nets and hairnets, and eventually the filet à provisions that became the standard French shopping bag. Production has never left the region. The mesh is still knitted and the handles still braided in Filt’s own workshops.
